A new school, a new curriculum, a new term.
I have just started the next academic year at a new school in a new country and everything is different. I have moved to an IB school and as well as Head of Physical Education, I am also a DP teacher for the Sports, Exercise and Health Science course in grade 11 and 12.
Obviously I knew moving to a different school and curriculum would provide new experiences and challenges and that was one of the main reasons I decided to make the move. However, I have just returned home from the 4th teaching day and am feeling completely overwhelmed by the amount of work to be done and the various different directions I am being pulled in. I am part of two departments (PE and Science), teaching across two different programmes (MYP and DP), and leading a department of staff who are involved in many other areas such as the bilingual section, the international section, the boarding house and the activities coordination. Not to mention the fact that there is no Primary PE teacher yet!
This post sounds very negative and I guess I am not feeling as positive as I normally would at the beginning of a brand new year, however I am very thankful for the wonderful PE team I have joined at the school and am happy that we seem to share a vision and determination for the PE department’s improvement and evolution over the next year. Here goes…
